Chinese braised tofu is a really easy dish using common Chinese pantry ingredients, yet packed with big flavors. This simple braised tofu is one of my trusted recipes that I make again and again.

The ingredients needed to make Braised Tofu:
- Prepare 1 packet extra firm tofu
- Prepare 1 large carrot
- Make ready 1/2 white onion
- Get 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- Prepare 1/2 cup soy sauce
- Get Sesame oil
- Make ready 1 tbsp maple syrup
- Take 1/3 tbsp cayenne
- Prepare 2 white scallions
- Take 5 cloves garlic
- Take Salt
- Take Pepper
- Take 1 cup water
- Make ready 2 scallion greens
- Make ready Sesame seeds
Cooking oil, garlic, green onion, hot pepper flakes, onion, salt, sesame oil, soy sauce, sugar, toasted sesame seeds, tofu, water. Braised tofu is one of my favorite go to dishes when I'm in a hurry. Instructions to make Braised Tofu:
- Cut tofu into thin slices and fry in sesame oil
- In a small bowl add mix soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, cayenne, maple syrup
- Peel and cut the carrot into small pieces, set aside
- After tofu is fried, cut and fry the onion, sliced longways. Add the garlic, salt, pepper, and white scallions.
- After onions are cooked, add the fried tofu and soy sauce mix. Sprinkle carrot and some extra raw onion on top. Add one cup of water and bring to boil for 10 minutes
- Cut to Green scallions on top and add sesame seeds. Serve hot and enjoy!
Today's recipe is dubu-jorim (spicy braised tofu). It's fresh tofu braised in a savory-spicy sauce and pan fried with caramelized onion, garlic. "I love the braised tofu served at Chinese restaurants, but at home I like to make it healthier (without the deep frying). In my version, I use a lot of vegetables to make it more filling for a lot less calories. This traditional korean braised tofu dish (Dubu Jorim) is best served cold - a little bit spicy I either have a lot of homemade kimchi in my future (unlikely) or this dubu jorim tofu dish-which is far more.
